Classes
Before considering Na Ali'i please take into consideration that our belief is based on the definition of "Tradition", "the handing down of information, beliefs, and customs by word of mouth or by example from one generation to another without written instruction". Therefore to say you are "Traditional" is a untrue statement since we are all "beyond tradition". I am often asked if my style is "Traditional", my style is a combination of all that I have learned through the talents of outstanding Kumu and experiances I have been blessed with along my lifes journey. Our ancestors had no written language and therefore until they could write this part of our history is beyond our knowledge and is therefore unknown to all of us. I have learned from several different Kumu for over 40 years. Starting at the age of 2 with my mother San Diegos finest Kau'i Brown. I competed in Merrie Monarch, I have danced with the best musicians in the Islands not to mention touring with Keola Beamer and dancing with his lovely wife Moana for 7 years his mother Nona Beamer and brother Kaliko Beamer-Trapp. Our halau has done cultural exchanges with the Professional Dance Group Kahurangi since 1990 and traveled to Tahiti exchanging with the One and Only Les Grand Ballet de Tahiti. With all this said, our style reflects the influences of the world while respecting the culture of Polynesia. Classes are offered Tues - Wed - Thurs each week.
